Purge Cache

Purge Cache

What is Cache Purge?

Cache purge removes cached content from CDN edge servers, forcing them to fetch fresh content from your origin. Use this when you've updated content and need changes to appear immediately.

Purge Types

Purge by URL

Clear cache for specific URLs or file paths.

How to use:

  1. Select your CDN resource
  2. Choose "Purge by URL"
  3. Enter URLs (one per line, up to 100 URLs)
  4. Example: /images/logo.png
  5. Click "Purge Now"

Best for: Updating specific files like images, CSS, or JavaScript files.

Purge All

Clear all cached content for the resource.

How to use:

  1. Select your CDN resource
  2. Choose "Purge All"
  3. Click "Purge Now"

Warning: This removes all cached content and may temporarily increase origin load and response times.

Best for: Major site updates or complete cache refresh.

Purge by Pattern

Use wildcards to purge multiple files matching a pattern.

How to use:

  1. Select your CDN resource
  2. Choose "Purge by Pattern"
  3. Enter pattern with wildcards
  4. Example: /images/ or /blog/2026/
  5. Click "Purge Now"

Best for: Clearing entire directories or file types.

Purge Limits

  • Maximum 100 URLs per request
  • Rate limit: 50 requests per hour
  • Changes may take up to 5 minutes to propagate globally

Purge History

View all purge requests with:

  • Invalidation ID: Unique identifier for tracking
  • Date (UTC): When purge was requested
  • Status: Completed, In Progress, or Failed
  • Paths: URLs or patterns that were purged

Best Practices

  • Purge only when necessary (caching improves performance)
  • Use specific URLs instead of "Purge All" when possible
  • Monitor cache hit ratio after purging
  • Wait 5 minutes before re-purging the same content
